You’ve heard of ‘Buy a Bale’ – the charity appeal that was set up last year to help our nations farmers through the drought. Well now you can Buy a Cow.
Rural Aid, the same organisation that was behind Buy a Bale, has established the Buy a Cow appeal as a way to help farmers from North West Queensland to rebuild their herds of cattle after the recent floods.
Australians are being urged to get behind the appeal, 100 percent of which will be given to farmers to help them rebuild.
Many farmers, who had already endured years of drought before the torrential rains hit, are now struggling again. Rural Aid says many of these farmers won’t have an income for two years.
Farmers will be given up to $15,000 each to help not just with rebuilding their herds but also with bill payments, groceries and fodder assistance.
Already Rural Aid, through its Buy a Bale program, delivered almost 2,500 bales of emergency hay into North West Queensland after the flood waters receded.
Over the last 6 months Rural Aid has supported farmers in drought-affected areas with more than $13 million, giving practical and financial help as well as counselling services.
