Sustainability has become a bit of a buzzword of late, but sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin to live a more sustainable life – especially when you are time poor.
Enter: Kylie Flament.
Kylie Flament is an internationally recognised leader in sustainability and zero waste. She’s currently the CEO of the Social Enterprise Council of NSW, making it easier for businesses to do good – and was the former CEO of Green Connect in the Illawarra.
Put simply, she knows her stuff. Kylie is also a busy mum, so she understands the time and mental space it takes to think about sustainability. She joined Hope Drive this Sustainable September to give her top three tips to start living more sustainably.
Kylie’s sustainability tips for busy people
- Buy your next thing secondhand
- Buy something plastic free
- Grow one thing
“It’s not about a few of us doing thing perfectly, it’s about many of us doing what we can.”
Kylie also acknowledged it can be difficult to believe that one person can make an impact – but encouraged people to surround themselves with those also trying to live more sustainably.
“It can be hard to see the difference you’re making because the scale of the problem is so big, but for every kilometre you don’t drive, for every one thing you don’t buy new – it does make a difference,” Kylie said.
“It’s not about a few of us doing thing perfectly, it’s about many of us doing what we can.
“The way to maintain hope is to take action, and the way to get people to take action is to give them hope.
“When others see you doing small things, they will be inspired to do more.”
