Based on the book of the same name, Jesus Revolution follows real life youth pastor Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney), Christian hippie Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie) and pastor Churck Smith (Kelsey Grammar) as they are impacted by the Jesus movement in Calfifornia during the 60s and 70s.
Joel Courtney spoke in an interview about his experience portraying Greg Laurie in Jesus Revolution.
“I saw that similarity between myself and Greg… our faith is such a perfect way of connecting to the character” Joel said.
“The 60’s and the 70’s were such a weird time and there was a lot of division. It was such a powerful moment when this church opened up its doors… it changed the world, it really did.”
“I think we’re looking for truth. I think we’re looking for something greater than ourselves… I think that searching, that longing I think that’s core to humans.”
“Greg [Laurie] found his faith…Jesus found him first.. and my story is very similar to that.”
Jesus Revolution is rated M and is in Australian and New Zealand theatres now.
